Prof. George R. Newkome

About the author

George R. Newkome received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kent State University.  He was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University before joining Louisiana State University where he rose to Distinguished Research Master in 1982.  In 1986, he joined the University of South Florida as the Vice President for Research with an appointment in chemistry, and was named Distinguished Research Professor in 1992. From 1995-2000, he hosted PBS Science Adventures. He served as Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Akron from 2001-2014; currently, he is the Ohio Research Foundation President, the Oelschlager Professor of Science and Technology, a professor of Polymer Science and Chemistry and the Vice President and Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. He recently received the Docteur Honoris Causa de l’université de Bordeaux and has published over 500 papers, 55 patents, and 20 scientific books and monographs.
