Abstract
In this report, solar radiation and daylight functions for the analysis of shadows, irradiance and radiant exposure on building facades in urban environments are presented. The functions are fully developed in MS Excel using Visual Basic for Applications.

Solar radiation is the most important energy source in nature. However, in urban environments, its exploitation as natural energy resource is quite complex due to the shadows produced on each building by the neighbouring ones. For that reason, a deeply knowledge of energetic magnitudes in urban environments is needed. In this paper, solar radiation and daylight functions for the analysis of shadows, irradiance and radiant exposure on building façades in urban environments are presented. In that way, the application, fully developed in MS-Excel using Visual Basic for Applications, provides the data necessary to generate the solar radiation map of a building façade in order to evaluate the best localization for a renewable energy system.
