Abstract

An approach for designing transmission cloaks by using ordinary dielectrics instead of meta- and plasmonic materials is proposed and demonstrated by the development of a multi-layercloak for hiding cylindrical objects larger than the wavelengths of incident radiation. The parameters of the cloak layers were found by using the Genetic Algorithm-based optimization procedure, which employed the reciprocal of total scattering cross width of the cloaked target, derived from the solution of the Helmholtz equation, as the fitness function. The proposed cloak demonstrated better cloaking efficiency than did a similarly sized metamaterial cloak designed by using the transformation optics relations.
