Abstract

The crack problem for a ferromagnetic solid under an applied uniform magnetic field has been studied by both the theoretical and the experimental methods. Some investigators applied the model of magnetically permeable crack but the others taken the magnetically impermeable model. In this study, the criterion to determine whether the crack is magnetically permeable or not is derived and both the magnetic and the magnetoelastic fields are obtained for two cases of crack. From the results of this work, the possible condition to detect the effect of pure magnetic loading on the crack problem with the experimental method can be provided.
